Election 2012

Ambassador Christian Academy went to the polls!  On Friday, November 2nd, students from all grades were able to come to the computer lab and vote for either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama.  We did have some middle school volunteers check-in the younger students.  They checked for their voter identification and had each student sign next to their name.  After they cast their votes, students were given an "I Voted!" sticker.  A special thanks to our middle school helpers: Katerina Mastoridis, Brandon Layfield, Devin Ungrue, Audree Radtke, Greg Williams, Justin Carbone, Zach Trainer and Tanner Winans.

The final results for our ACA election were extremely close.  Only seven votes separated the two candidates.

The winner of ACA's election 2012 is....Barack Obama.  A special thank you to all our voters!

Math and Science Club - Skyscrapers

On October 12 at Math and Science Club, we looked into skyscrapers. We talked about famous skyscrapers and forces that act on skyscrapers. We discussed the reality of limited resources in construction. Then, we did a mini contest to see who could create a skyscraper out of limited resources that would stand the tallest and able to withstand a "hurricane" (being blown on from an arms length away). The students used three sheets of newspaper and about a foot of tape.

Here are some of the results:

Skyscraper is 22inches tall and was able to stay standing.

Skyscraper is 38 inches tall, but did not stay standing.

Skyscraper was 26 inches tall and stayed standing.

After our building, measuring, and testing were complete, we discussed what the students had learned from the activity. The students all agreed that having a good base or foundation seemed to be the most important part of the building. We then were able to connect that to Jesus being our rock and our strong foundation.

Overall, it was another successful club meeting and we are looking forward to our next meeting on October 26th!

Math and Science Club

Today we had a great first meeting of the Math and Science Club. We have 17 members as of right now and the kids are enthusiastic and excited about being a part of this club. Club members have ideas for trips and topics to study. They are also making decisions about who to nominate for student leaders and designing club t-shirts.

Today we enjoyed learning about nucleation. We combined mentos and soda to make our own geysers. We tested a variety of different sodas and discovered that diet sodas were the most successful and that orange and lemon lime sodas were the least successful. We also were able to watch a video of a geyser show using the same ingredients we used at the following website: www.eepybird.com .

(Today I was so caught up in the experiment and excitement of the students that I forgot to take pictures to share, but I hope that in the future we will have pictures of all we are doing to share.)
